DAP's Abdul Aziz appointed Perak opposition leader

IPOH: The Perak Pakatan Harapan leadership council has appointed Tebing Tinggi assemblyman Dr Abdul Aziz Bari as the new state assembly opposition leader.

Perak Pakatan secretariat chief V. Sivakumar, said the former state executive council member, who is also Perak DAP vice-chairman, has been chosen for the post.

"We at the council believe that Abdul Aziz, a constitutional law expert, will carry out his main role as an opposition leader well in the country's democratic system," Sivakumar said in a statement on Saturday (May 9).

The one-day state assembly sitting is expected to be held on May 12.

Prior to the fall of the Pakatan leadership, Datuk Saarani Mohamad from Umno was the opposition leader.

In early March, Perak Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Ahmad Faizal Azumu said Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia, Umno and PAS had joined hands to form the new Perak state government.

The next day after the announcement, Faizal tendered his resignation as mentri besar, but was re-appointed later in the week.

During the 22-month Pakatan administration, Aziz Bari was implicated by Umno as the man behind the plot to bring down Faizal as the MB.

However, Aziz Bari had consistently denied those allegations.
