KOTA KINABALU: Sabah has screened a total of 231,980 people for Covid-19 as of Thursday (April 9), out of which 16,654 samples have been taken for testing.
Sabah Health Department director Datuk Dr Christina Rundi said the 1,866 tests were carried out on April 9 itself.
"Six tests were positive and four are repeat cases," she said in a statement late Friday (April 10).
She said the state also recorded its third death and 250 positive cases on April 10.
"The patient was a 61-year-old Malaysian from Kota Kinabalu who had a history of diabetes and hypertension," Dr Rundi said.
He was admitted to the Queen Elizabeth Hospital on March 17 and succumbed to his illness at about 8.21am on April 10.
She said the Health Department had strengthened the screening process at all international entry points into Sabah to better detect those with Covid-19 symptoms.
"Those with symptoms will be referred straight to the hospital while those who are have just arrived from overseas but show no symptoms will be quarantined for 14 days in state-provided facilities," Dr Rundi said.
She said state health officials are thankful for the donations in the form of personal protection equipment (PPE) which would boost their morale during these tough times.
