MCO: Cops on the hunt for duo for allegedly crashing into roadblock

GOMBAK: Police are hot on the heels of two men who allegedly crashed past a roadblock here.

Gombak OCPD Asst Comm Arifai Tarawe said the suspects were acting suspiciously as they approached a roadblock at KM13.2 of the Middle Ring Road 2 Expressway at around 2am of Monday (March 23) and sped off towards the Kuala Lumpur-Karak expressway.

"They also crashed through the barrier at the Gombak Toll Plaza as they headed towards Bentong but lost control of their vehicle and crashed in to a road divider there.

"They later abandoned their vehicle and ran towards the nearby forest," he said.

Police continued to search for the men and their hard work paid off when they arrested one of them at about 5pm around Jalan Klang Lama.

ACP Arifai said the suspect, 21, has a criminal record and has been arrested for about 20 offences including drug offences.

"We will continue efforts to look for the other two in the group," he said.

The case is being investigated under Section 186 and 279 of the Penal Code for obstructing public servants from discharging their duties and rash driving.

The suspect will also be investigated for violating rules and regulations of the movement control order (MCO).

In a separate case, police also arrested three more men who are believed to have robbed a sundry shop in Selayang Baru.

Police were alerted of the crime when the 24-year-old shop clerk lodged a report on Sunday (March 22), saying that three masked men approached the shop and threatened the clerk with a knife.

The men later stole several items from the shop and fled.

The next day, police managed to track down the group and stopped their car around Jalan 23 in Selayang Baru.

The men, aged between 27 and 29, were later brought to the police station for questioning.

All three had criminal records and have been remanded until March 28 to aid with investigations.

The case is being investigated under Sections 395 and 397 of the Penal Code for gang robbery and armed robbery.
