Four Johor cops test for Covid-19, one cleared

JOHOR BARU: Four police officers in Johor were tested after they were suspected to have contracted Covid-19, with one having been confirmed to test negative.

The officers, two from the Johor Baru South division, one from Tangkak and another from Kluang were quarantined while awaiting their results, said state police chief Comm Datuk Ayob Khan Mydin Pitchay at Johor Police Headquarters on Tuesday (March 17).

"The officers were issued 14-day, stay-home notices from March 12, with one serving quarantine at Hospital Permai,

"One of the officers from the Johor Baru South division has been confirmed negative and has been released," he said, adding that the three remaining officers will still serve their quarantine until March 29.

Comm Ayob mentioned that the officers were quarantined as they had either attended the tabligh programme in Masjid Jamek Sri Petaling or were in close contact with the attendees.

On a separate case, state narcotics division seized a total of RM5.9mil in drugs and arrested 4,438 suspects since the beginning of the year.

Comm Ayob said as of March 14, a total of RM2.8mil in items including vehicles were also confiscated.

He said this during the press conference regarding a recent raid on a drug syndicate on March 11, which saw the arrest of four locals.

"We conducted raids at an apartment in Tampoi and found 16kg of marijuana, 2kg of heroin, 1kg of methamphetamine, 3kg of ecstasy powder and 4,950 ecstasy pills," he said.

He added that the amount of drugs seized is estimated at RM540,000.

"A red Honda Accord and white Hyundai Starex along with RM1,600 in cash were also confiscated," he said.

All four suspects will be remanded till March 19 to facilitate investigation under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952.
