Leave DAP out from any new ruling alliance, says PAS

PETALING JAYA: PAS, which supports Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad to continue serving as Prime Minister, insists DAP should not be included in any new ruling alliance.

Its information chief Kamaruzaman Mohamad claimed DAP had undermined the Federal Constitution when it was part of the ruling Pakatan Harapan government.

The coalition lost power on Monday (Feb 24) after Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad stepped down following incessant pressure from certain leaders to hand over power to PKR president Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.

"DAP's extremism was obvious when it was in power. Playing with racial fire can lead to political instability and disharmony," he said in a statement Tuesday (Feb 25).

In the wake of the current political development, PAS would only act in accordance with provisions in the law, he said.

"We shall remain calm," he added.

Amid allegations of counter backdoor deals between Anwar and PAS, the Islamist party stood firm that Dr Mahathir should continue serving a full term, in accordance with the mandate given by the rakyat, said Kamaruzaman when contacted.

He said PAS expressed confidence in Yang di-Pertuan Agong Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri’ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah's wisdom in addressing the political deadlock as no parties or coalition had the majority seats to form the government.

Pakatan lost its majority after Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia pulled out, and Warisan dissociated itself from the coalition.
