Melaka police chief confirms reports lodged by DAP against TikTok claims

MELAKA: Police are investigating two reports lodged by DAP against allegations maligning the party, says Deputy Comm Datuk Dzulkhairi Mukhtar.

The Melaka police chief said both reports were lodged by DAP leaders last Wednesday (Oct 14), with the first concerning TikTok content linking the party to a proposal to continue the Banda Hilir car-free zone, which will allegedly affect traders in the affected area.

He said the content had sparked dissatisfaction by portraying DAP as seeking to undermine businesses in the city.

“The second report concerns allegations that DAP was involved in the operation of a religious school for the Rohingya community here.

“Both cases remain under investigation under Section 500 of the Penal Code and Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998,” he told reporters on Thursday (Oct 22).

DCP Dzulkhairi confirmed the reports were lodged to refute allegations that the complainants said could damage the party’s reputation and that police were looking into the allegations.

On the Melaka election preparations, DCP Dzulkhairi said about 3,400 police personnel would be deployed to ensure the polls run smoothly.

He said Melaka police have also requested an additional 1,500 personnel from other states and Bukit Aman to bolster security throughout the election period.

“Bukit Aman will coordinate the deployment of reinforcements from other states.

“We also have a special team that will use closed-circuit television (CCTV), drones and other equipment to help ensure the smooth conduct of the state election,” he added.

The Election Commission (EC) set Nov 14 as polling day for the 16th Melaka state election, with nominations on Oct 31 and Nov 10 for early voting.
