‘Dr M quit because he refuses to work with Umno’

PETALING JAYA: Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad (pic) submitted his resignation because he refuses to work with Umno, says Lim Guan Eng.

The DAP secretary-general said the party would stand behind Dr Mahathir and propose to the Pakatan Harapan presidential council emergency meeting today for him to continue as the Prime Minister to fulfil and deliver the coalition election manifesto.

“This consistency and principled stand in rejecting a corrupt Umno should be supported by all Malaysians, ” he read out his statement at a press conference yesterday.

Lim said the party commended Dr Mahathir’s principled position of refusing to work with Umno, whose leaders were involved in corrupt practices and misrule, causing Malaysia to be labelled as a “global kleptocracy at its worst”.

“This is the first time that a Malaysian Prime Minister is prepared to resign on principle to uphold integrity and combat corruption, ” he said.

He also condemned the “treachery” of some Pakatan leaders and MPs who attempted to form a backdoor government to replace the existing democratically elected Pakatan government with a new coalition.
