KUALA LUMPUR: Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad has arrived at Istana Negara for an audience with Yang di-Pertuan Agong Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri'ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah.
Arriving with his motorcade at 4.40pm Monday (Feb 24), this was Dr Mahathir's first sighting since the shocking announcement that he was resigning as Prime Minister earlier this afternoon.
In a statement by the Prime Minister's Office, Dr Mahathir's letter of resignation was delivered to the King at 1pm.
It will be up to the King to decide whether to accept Dr Mahathir's resignation or ask him to stay in office.
Earlier at about 2.30pm, PKR president Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim and Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail had an audience with the King.
On Sunday (Feb 23), leaders from five political parties and former PKR deputy president Datuk Seri Azmin Ali also had an audience with the King to present their new proposed alliance.
