Habibah is the new Education DG


PETALING JAYA: Dr Habibah Abdul Rahim (pic) is the new Education director-general.

She replaces Datuk Dr Amin Senin who retired on Dec 21.

Habibah, who started her term on Jan 10, is the second woman to hold the position after Tan Sri Dr Asiah Abu Samah.

“With her expertise, experience and achievements, the ministry believes Habibah will continue to improve the country’s educational performance in line with the aspirations envisaged in the Malaysia Education Blueprint 2013-2025, ” the ministry said in a statement.

Habibah began her service as a teacher in 1986 in several schools in Selangor and Kedah before serving in various organisations within the Education Ministry.

Among the positions she has held were deputy director-general (policy and curriculum), Education Policy Planning and Research Division director, Education Performance and Performance Unit executive director and Aminuddin Baki Institute senior lecturer.

Habibah graduated from the University of Salford, Britain, in 1984 with a Bachelor of Arts in Biology followed by a Master’s degree in education from the University of Bristol in 1993.

She subsequently obtained her PhD in Education from Stanford University in the United States in 2001.
