KUALA LUMPUR: Muhammad Yusoff Rawther, a former staff of PKR president Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, was questioned by Federal police for more than seven hours over a sexual misconduct allegation.
Yusoff, who arrived at Bukit Aman at 12.45pm yesterday, left the police headquarters at 9.15pm.
Speaking to reporters when he emerged from police questioning, Yusoff chided his distant family members for making baseless claims.
He demanded those who were not part of his family not to interfere with the case.
“This grand-uncle is someone I meet once a year during Hari Raya and all of a sudden he is an expert on my life,” he said, referring to Mohideen Abdul Kader.
“It is surprising...but my family has already issued a statement on the matter and I will leave it at that,” he said.
Mohideen had said that he believed 26-year-old Yusoff was manipulated by certain politicians to serve their interest.
He claimed none of the family members, including those close to Yusoff, were told about what happened.
Yusoff’s lawyer, Datuk Haniff Khatri Abdulla, said they were aware of certain individuals claiming to be family making reckless comments.
“So far, there has not been any threat to my client’s safety, but we still need to be cautious,” he said.
Haniff said Yusoff told the police why there was a delay in making the police report on the alleged sexual misconduct.
“I’m not at liberty to divulge these details as it is part of the police statement.
“He wants justice and police are investigating the matter. Of course, if what he says is true, then he expects the police to take appropriate action.
“On the other hand, he is not a young boy and he understands that if he lied, he will also be paying the price,” he said.
Haniff said police have told them that they were investigating the case for assault or use of criminal force to a person with the intent to outrage modesty.
It is understood that the Federal police’s Classified Criminal Investigations Unit (D5) is investigating the case.
On Saturday, Yusoff lodged a report at the Sentul district police headquarters, urging the authority to investigate his statutory declaration.
In his report, he claimed the alleged incident took place at Anwar’s home in Segambut on Oct 2 last year.
Yusoff, in a statutory declaration, claimed Anwar attempted to coerce him into oral and anal sex at the leader’s office, which he rejected.
He claimed he was making the statutory declaration because he was worried for his safety.
