UMS to take steps to ensure 'Nazi salute' incidents don't happen in future

KOTA KINABALU: Appropriate steps will be taken to ensure that incidents like the now-viral "Nazi salute" will not tarnish the convocation ceremony again, says Universiti Malaysia Sabah (UMS).

UMS issued a statement on Tuesday (Nov 26) and said that it regretted the incident, adding that all students were told the appropriate protocol and procedure for the convocation ceremony.

It added that the conduct of the graduate does not reflect the views of the university, as they are his personal views.

“The graduate took advantage of the moment to stop and make the gesture as if he was waving at the audience," said the varsity's strategic management and corporate communications centre.

“UMS regrets that the picture uploaded by the graduate in his Facebook posting is one on the convocation stage," it added.
