Local farmers will lose right to sell own seeds if international convention is ratified, claims group


PETALING JAYA: Some 21 associations and organisations representing farmers and public interest groups joined forces to air their concerns to the Federal Government on the far-reaching implications of ratifying the Swiss-based International Union for the Protection of New Varieties of Plants (Upov) 1991 Convention.

Malaysia Food Security and Sovereignty Forum coordinator Nurfitri Amir Muhammad called on the Pakatan Harapan Government to rescind the previous government's Cabinet decision to participate in Upov by 2021.
