KUALA LUMPUR: A Perak assemblyman is being investigated for the alleged sexual assault of his Indonesian maid.
When contacted, Bukit Aman Sexual, Women and Child Investigations Division (D11) principal assistant director Asst Comm Choo Lily confirmed the case.
“Yes, a report had been made (on the case),” she said.
It is believed that the report was made on Monday (July 8) by the alleged victim.
In a separate press statement, Perak DAP chairman Nga Kor Ming said that the allegation is serious.
"The party views the matter with grave concern. As a police report has been lodged, the party is of the view that no one is above the law and as such, we will leave it to the authorities to conduct a full investigation," said Nga, who is also the party's deputy secretary-general.
"Appropriate action will be taken depending on the outcome of the investigation," he added.
It has been reported that the assemblyman in question had claimed his innocence on the matter when he was contacted by Sin Chew Daily.
