AKPS stations first intake of Armed Forces veterans at KLIA, Port Klang

KAJANG: The first batch of Armed Forces veterans recruited into the Malaysian Border Control and Protection Agency (AKPS) will be deployed within the Klang Valley, says Home Minister Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail.

Speaking at a press conference at Maktab Penjara here, he said 48 candidates from the inaugural intake passed the selection process in April.

Of the total, 31 personnel will be stationed at Kuala Lumpur International Airport, 14 at Port Klang, while three will be assigned to the agency’s headquarters.

“Although they are military veterans, this recruitment was conducted by the agency, so they still had to undergo screening processes, including psychometric assessments, physical tests and interview sessions, to ensure they meet the required service standards,” he said.

He added that all successful candidates would serve in operational roles on one-year contracts.

“We have an allocation of around RM8mil. This is just the first batch, and we still have eight more months remaining in the year.

“Moving forward, in line with AKPS’ needs, we will request additional personnel based on what can be accommodated within the budget, subject to the Finance Ministry’s consideration,” he said.

It was announced in October 2025 that the agency would fill 220 vacancies with Armed Forces veterans under Budget 2026.
