Newborn baby girl abandoned at parking lot in Skudai


JOHOR BARU: Police are tracking an individual responsible for abandoning a newborn baby girl at the parking area of a surau in Taman Universiti, Skudai near here.

Johor Baru South OCPD Asst Comm Radin Ramlan Radin Taha said the baby wrapped in a towel and still attached to the umbilical cord was found on Saturday (April 11) at 7.33pm.

“We received information from a witness who heard a baby crying from the direction of the car park area,’’ he said in a statement.

ACP Radin Ramlan said the baby was immediately taken to the Sultanah Aminah Hospital near here for examination and treatment.

“The baby is in a stable condition,’’ he said, adding the case is being investigated under Section 317 of the Penal Code for child abandonment, which carries up to seven years’ imprisonment, a fine, or both.
