Schoolchildren in Kelantan not affected

PETALING JAYA: No schoolchildren from SK Pasir Linggi and SMK Sri Wangi, both in Kelantan, have been affected by the “mysterious” deaths at the Bateq Orang Asli community in Kampung Kuala Koh.

A source from the Education Ministry told The Star that students from SMK Paloh, Kelantan, were also not affected.

“This is based on an earlier report concerning the health crisis affecting the Orang Asli community in Gua Musang,” the source added.

Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department P. Waytha Moorthy confirmed that 14 Orang Asli in Kuala Koh had died in the past one month.

Those who were suffering from symptoms had been taken to hospital for check-ups and those remaining in the village would be monitored, he added.

The Pahang Health Department has been asked to monitor the spread of pneumonia at the Orang Asli settlements in the state.
