PETALING JAYA: Two Malaysians are confirmed injured in the mosque massacre in New Zealand, and are being treated in hospital, says the Foreign Ministry.

"As of 3pm (Malaysian time), no Malaysians are reported to be among the fatalities. However, two Malaysians are injured in the incident and being treated," it said.

New Zealand authorities said that 40 people were killed in the attacks during Friday (March 15) prayers at two mosques in Christchurch.

"Malaysia condemns in the strongest term, this senseless act of terror on innocent civilians and hopes that those responsible for this barbaric crime be brought to justice. Our thoughts and prayers are with the victims and families of today’s shooting incident.

"The High Commission of Malaysia in Wellington is in contact with Malaysians in Christchurch and is monitoring the situation closely," the Foreign Ministry said in a statement.

Early Friday, a gunman opened fire at two crowded mosques in Christchurch during the afternoon prayers.

Four people are now in custody and Christchurch has been put on lockdown by the authorities.
