KUALA LUMPUR: The family of missing Irishman Stephen Warden has hired a private investigator to assist in the search.
His brother Donal Warde said that some new leads have emerged.
“We had some potential sightings and both the police and the family are investigating this.
“We also hired a private investigator to assist us with our search.
“The police are keeping us updated and we’re still waiting for some other evidence such as mobile phone details and CCTV footage.
“I think if we get them over the next few days it would help us zero in on Steven.”
“As of now we only have the potential sightings to work with,” he said.
City police chief Comm Datuk Seri Mazlan Lazim reiterated that the police are doing their best in locating him.
“We hope the public shares information with us.
“Their help is important in solving this case,” he said yesterday during a press conference at the Duta toll plaza.
It was reported that police are searching for an Irish man who has been missing since New Year’s Day.
Steven, 31, who entered Malaysia as a tourist on Nov 15, was last seen three days after Christmas.
It was learnt that he was last seen at Mercu Summer Suite along Jalan Sultan Ismail here.
His mother, Mary Morrissey, was quoted by an Irish news portal issuing a desperate appeal for help to find him.
In unrelated news, the foreign couple seen endangering their baby during a street performance has been arrested.
A video of their exploits was made viral recently.
Comm Mazlan said that the arrest was made following reports made by the public.
“The Russian couple, aged 28 and 27 years old, were arrested during a street performance along Jalan Raja Abdullah yesterday,” he said.
Sources said that the couple were visitors, having entered the country on Feb 1 via Thailand.
