PETALING JAYA: Kedah PAS is saddened by the Federal Court's decision rejecting the state government's appeal regarding the termination of operating licences for gaming premises in Kedah.
However, state PAS Commissioner Datuk Ahmad Yahaya said they acknowledged the decision.
“This decision also saddens the people of Kedah. It is very ironic when the state moves to practice the principle of preventing damage in society, it is opposed by certain parties to the point that they are willing to take this case to court from the beginning.
“This is very regrettable. How can there be parties who still stubbornly defend gambling in the state despite the government's efforts to close down all premises that have been implemented in accordance with existing legal guidelines,” he said in a Facebook post Wednesday (Aug 12).
Ahmad noted that Kedah PAS would continue to support the state government for any appropriate follow-up action following this Federal Court ruling, as the struggle would not end here.
He said the Kedah state government announced that it will not continue to issue gaming premises operating licences effective Jan 1, 2023 based on the decision of the state executive council on Dec 8, 2021.
This stance means that the High Court's decision to cancel the zero gaming policy in Kedah based on the judgment in June 2024 is applicable, he also said.
