Man shot dead after attacking cop near Komtar


GEORGE TOWN: A man was shot dead by police after he brandished a knife and attacked at a policeman near Komtar here on Friday (Nov 23).

George Town OCPD Asst Comm Che Zaimani Che Awang said Kpl Mohamad Hafizi Mohamed Akhir, who was on duty at the Komtar police pondok (police beat base), shot the 41-year-old man after he refused to put down the knife.

"The corporal had to shoot him because the man did not respond after repeated warnings and attacked the corporal with a seven-inch knife," he said.

ACP Zaimani said Kpl Mohamad was trying to break up a fight between the deceased and another man at around 3pm when he was attacked.

The man who is from Klang, Selangor, has a previous record of 15 narcotics and criminal cases.
