Tackling climate change a priority for Yeo

PETALING JAYA: Newly minted Energy, Green Technology, Science and Climate Change Minister Yeo Bee Yin is all set to come up with a roadmap to tackle climate change.

Yeo said her first order of business was to strategise and reorganise her ministry to make it work more effectively and productively.

Next would be to fulfil Pakatan Harapan’s manifesto of setting up a council for climate change mitigation and adaptation.

“This council should be formed immediately and we are looking for experts, professionals and even civil servants to join this climate change council,” said Yeo.

Among the other policies to be given priority are affordable green living for the public and cutting carbon emission.

“In this ministry, it is not only about the present but the future, too, so we have to be future ready and grow with science and technology by learning to adapt and mitigate,” she said.

Yeo also wants to create more job opportunities for Malaysians in the green industry, which is a growing one.
