KOTA KINABALU: Former Sabah Credit Corporation chief executive officer Datuk George Ginibun has been appointed as the second deputy Speaker of the state legislative assembly.

The 66-year-old received his letter of appointment and was sworn in before Yang di-Pertua Negeri Sabah Tun Juhar Mahiruddin at Istana Negeri on Tuesday (June 26).

Ginibun, a well-known local figure in social and sports organisations, is a member of Parti Warisan Sabah, which took over the state government on May 12 when its party president Datuk Seri Mohd Shafie Apdal was sworn in as Chief Minister on May 12.

Shafie and State Speaker Datuk Syed Abas Syed Ali were among those present at the swearing-in ceremony.

Another deputy Speaker Datuk Ahmad Abdul Rahman, a 68-year-old lawyer, was sworn in on June 7.

The two will replace Datuk Johnny Mositun (Parti Bersatu Sabah) and Datuk Johnson Tee (Parti Bersatu Rakyat Sabah), whose appointments expired in May this year.
