PETALING JAYA: More than 20 cars have been seized by the Road Transport Department (JPJ), including a sports car owned by a Rohingya national.
Kuala Lumpur JPJ director Hamidi Adam said that around 23 cars were seized as part of the three-day Ops Khas Luxury from Aug 25 to 27.
“Among the vehicles seized was a sports car driven by a Rohingya national. The vehicle was spotted travelling in a convoy with several other vehicles at the SPE Toll Plaza before being stopped for inspection.
“Checks found that the driver did not possess a valid driving licence. We subsequently seized the vehicle in accordance with the relevant provisions of the law,” he said.
He added that other seized vehicles included several luxury car brands.
In the same time frame the JPJ issued 73 notices for various offenses including 39 notices for expired licenses and one for displaying another vehicle’s number plate.
In a related matter the operation, up until Aug 28, had led to the seizure of 179 vehicles with 393 notices issued.
“The JPJ emphasises that the value, brand, price or status of a vehicle has never been and will never be an exemption from enforcement action.
"Whether a vehicle is worth tens of thousands or millions of ringgit, the law applies.
“Road users, particularly owners of high-powered and luxury vehicles, are advised not to regard the status or value of their vehicles as a licence to disregard the rules,” he said.
