National Unity Ministry to host 'Anak Merdeka' event for those born on Aug 31

KUALA LUMPUR: The National Unity Ministry, through the National Archives of Malaysia, will organise a special Anak Merdeka celebration this year dedicated to individuals born on Aug 31, in conjunction with National Day.

Minister Datuk Aaron Ago Dagang said the event will be held on Aug 31, starting at 10am, at the Tun Hussein Onn Memorial.

He said the programme aims to ignite the spirit of patriotism and love for the country, while also reflecting on the meaning of independence and appreciating the struggles of past generations in building a peaceful, prosperous and sovereign Malaysia.

"This programme is also a platform to strengthen a sense of togetherness, national identity and unity among the people. It aligns with building a strong nation-state founded on mutual respect and a sense of belonging towards Malaysia," he said in a Facebook post on Friday (Aug 28).

Members of the public who were born on the historic date of Aug 31 are invited to attend and participate in the celebration to mark National Day together. - Bernama
