PETALING JAYA: Almost 300,000 people, mainly police and armed forces personnel, will be casting their votes early on Saturday (May 5) for GE14, says the Election Commission.

It chairman Tan Sri Mohd Hashim Abdullah said 278,590 out of the 300,255 registered early voters will cast their votes.

"They will vote at 586 polling stations nationwide that will be run by 6,376 polling staff.

"The process will be monitored by party agents and observers," he said in a statement Friday.

The remaining 21,665 early voters will cast their votes via post.

The voting will begin at 8am to 5pm, except for several polling centres, which closes as early as 1pm, or as late as 7pm.

"The ballots will not be counted until May 9 at 4pm. Until then, they will be kept safely in police lockups," said Mohd Hashim.
