Penang in no hurry to dissolve state assembly

GEORGE TOWN: A Penang state executive councillor hinted that the State Assembly might only be dissolved "a few days" after the dissolution of Parliament.

Senior state exco member Chow Kon Yeow (pic), who is also Penang DAP chairman, said a final state exco meeting will probably be called after the Parliament is dissolved.

"Then the Chief Minister (Lim Guan Eng) will seek an audience with the Governor for the Penang State Assembly to be dissolved also.

"We don't have to do it on the same day, it can be tomorrow or a day or two after.

"Probably two or three days later. If the decision (the dissolution of Parliament) is today, maybe on Monday or some other day," he said after visiting a flood mitigation project site in Jalan Dr Lim Chwee Leong on Friday.

In Putrajaya, the press have converged at the Prime Minister's Office where Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak is chairing his last Cabinet meeting.

He is expected to address the nation live on TV1 at about 11.30am, where he is also expected to announce the dissolution of Parliament.
