Visitors spoilt for choice with freebies and activities

PETALING JAYA: Visitors had a “WOW” weekend at The Star’s Women’s Fiesta yesterday. With 150 exhibitors and a fun line-up of activities, there was a lot to see, do and enjoy.

Women were celebrated with special promotions, freebies, activities and complimentary beauty services on the first day of the fiesta at The Starling Mall, Damansara Uptown.

Fauzah Abdul Rahim, 30, enjoyed her free eyebrow-styling session at Sasa’s booth.

“I managed to get this free session after collecting the stamps for my double win card. It was fun,” said the marketing executive.

Nur Amirah, 20, was delighted with her makeover by the Aery Jo Academy.

“There are good bargains here, especially for the cosmetic and beauty products. That is why I was able to spend enough to be entitled for the free makeover session,” she said.

Retiree Florence Leow, who came with her friends and her son, said she learnt about the event from the Star newspaper.

“I bought a package for medical check-ups at one of the booths,” said Leow, 60, when met at the Posh Nail Spa booth.

Visitors will get a complimentary manicure service at Posh Nail Spa when they spend more than RM200 at the event.

Singer Hunny Madu said the event also provided opportunities for young female entrepreneurs to promote their products.

“I am an exhibitor myself here. I think this is a great event that provides a platform for us female entrepreneurs and, of course, working mothers,” she said.

One of the most colourful stalls at the fiesta was Farah Ruslee’s African-inspired urban clothing store TPS Diva.

Her store has everything from turbans and pinless head wraps to separate pieces such as tops, skirts and dresses made from African tribal material sourced by her family there.

“I saw pictures of beautiful African designs on Instagram. Then I worked with my tailor to create these African-inspired pieces priced from RM100 to RM270,” said the enterprising lady.

Though local shoppers were not familiar with the designs at first, business has since picked up.

For exotic flavours closer to home, those who fancy a dash of local “royalty” can try beauty pro­ducts made with extracts from Malaysia’s very own king and queen of fruits.

Visitors to the booth of online beauty marketplace mySMINK should also look out for the B&B Labs display.

Shoppers can get a free sample worth RM70 of the Advanced Durian Hydration Serum or the Mangosteen Brightening Detox Serum from the brand’s Science Series.

“Durian is really good for hydration and it locks moisture in skin for a long time.

“Mangosteen also helps to brighten fatigued skin,” said marketing specialist Puteri Elly, 23.

For those who dislike the smell of durian, fear not – both serums have a mild, pleasant scent.
