Girl’s body found in car boot

MIRI: Police detained a 33-year-old man following the discovery of a dead 13-year-old girl in the boot of a car here.

Sarawak CID Chief Senior Asst Comm Datuk Dev Kumar said the man from Kuala Lumpur was the boyfriend of the girl’s mother.

“He is staying with her, the 13-year-old girl and the deceased’s elder sister at their house in a residential estate in Kuala Baram district,” said SAC Dev.

He said at about 5.55pm cops on patrol saw the man acting suspiciously in a forested area along the Kuala Baram road.

“He was doing something outside the car with the boot opened but when policemen approached him, he quickly got into the car and sped off.

“The police gave chase and cornered the suspect near the Miri Port. They ordered the suspect out and on checking the boot, found the dead girl inside,” he said.

SAC Dev said the man would be investigated for murder and would be remanded today.
