High scores the stepping stone to a dream career

JOHOR BARU: Ras Qurratu Ain Mohd Yusof and Yong Zong Seng have sat next to each other in class since Form One and are neighbours in Rini Hills, Taman Mutiara Rini.

They both want to be doctors, and passed their Form Three Asses­sment (PT3) with flying colours.

Ras Qurratu and Zong Seng, both 15, from SMK Mohd Khalid here, were among 50,004 Form Three students in Johor who took the PT3 this year.

Ras Qurratu said she was lucky to have Zong Seng sitting next to her as they always helped each other with their studies.

They each spend about four hours daily on homework and revision, although they do not study together after school. “We have our own study groups,” said Zong Seng.

In Petaling Jaya, secondary schools were buzzing with activity as eager students came to see if their hard work in the first years of secondary school had paid off.

At SMK Bandar Utama Daman­sara (3), 15-year-old Jess Yeap said she had started preparing for the examination even before the school year started. As a result of her hard work, Jess scored eight As and two Bs.

Muhammad Asyraff Zulkefly, 15, from the same school scored fairly well with seven As, two Bs and one C. Asyraff drew up his own study schedule and was motivated to stay on track with the support of friends and family.

Kishaannth Bala Chandran, 15, missed many days of class as a young athlete representing the country. He has a packed schedule and had to sacrifice lessons to attend tournaments.

However, he put in extra effort by doing extensive research for the Science paper and completing Mathema­tics exercises.

He scored seven As, one B and one C, and is happy with the results.

In George Town, three best friends took the exam as a competition of sorts and ended up scoring high together.

A. Varshah, Nur Farahin Ramlan and Josephine Ong Chin Wey, all 15, were jumping for joy after getting their result slips at the school hall of St George’s Girl School.

Varshah made a clean sweep of nine As. Nur Farahin also got all aces, scoring 10 As including Pendidikan Islam.

Josephine was a little crestfallen because she got eight As and a B in History, but her buddies helped her take it in her stride. The trio were among 159 students in their school who took the PT3 this year.
