Big star: Maya Karin denies not taking roles in television because she is conscious of her status as a film star.

PETALING JAYA: Unlike many other actresses, Maya Karin (pic) has never been involved in a television drama despite a career spanning 17 years.

The 37-year-old said she received a lot of offers but had no desire to act in a TV series.

“Until now my heart has not been open to that possibility. I almost accepted an offer to star in a television drama but pulled out in the end due to scheduling conflicts.

“I guess I have not yet had the good fortune to star on TV,” she said.

According to Maya, her decision not to work in television is not because she is conscious of her status as a film star but because she wants to focus on select projects.

“I have a business to run, so the attention I devote to acting is no longer 100%. That’s why I have to be selective and focus on films.”

However, Maya said that she was not completely shutting out the possibility of acting in a television series.

“If the script and timing are right, why not?”

Maya will appear in a theatrical production of Tun Fatimah Serikandi Empayar Melaka, which will be staged at Panggung Bangsawan Melaka on Oct 20 and 21 from 8pm.

Tickets ranging between RM50 and RM150 are available from the Malacca Chief Minister’s Office or by calling 06-234 6617.
