KUALA LUMPUR: Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak boarded the Mass Rapid Transit (MRT) along with his deputy and various Cabinet ministers for their very own “Kajang Move”.

The Prime Minister had earlier launched the second phase of the MRT Sungai Buloh-Kajang (SBK) line at the Tun Razak Exchange station here.

After the ceremony, Najib – accompanied by his wife Datin Seri Rosmah Mansor, Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi and various Cabinet members – took the train to the Stadium Kajang MRT station to join thousands of people for a big satay party.

“The completion of this MRT SBK line represents the true ‘Kajang Move’ as it benefits everyone,” Najib said, addressing the crowd.

The “Kajang Move” was an attempt by PKR in 2014 to replace then Selangor mentri besar Tan Sri Khalid Ibrahim with the party’s de facto leader Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.

Najib said he was overwhelmed, adding that it was personally satisfying to see the delivery of the project.

“In 2009, when I gave approval for the MRT projects, there was nothing but a piece of paper. Now it is a reality.

“Usually, mega projects of this scale will have delays but I am proud that this was completed ahead of schedule,” he added.

Najib also said some RM2bil was saved from the overall estimated cost of RM23bil for the project.

He joked that some of the savings was used to treat the guests to satay.

It is understood that the massive turnout even caused the town to run out of its famous delicacy as most satay shops delivered their full-day output to the function.

The crowd feasted on some 70,000 sticks of satay, which were ordered for the event, and a government official said extra orders had to be made.

Several ministers who accompanied Najib on the MRT ride to Kajang had nothing but praise for the system, giving it the thumbs up.

Land Public Transport Commission acting chairman Tan Sri Mohd Isa Samad said it was “a smooth ride and very good”.
