Belarus targets 25 pct electric public transport by late 2029

MINSK, Oct. 23 (Xinhua) -- Belarus plans to increase the share of electric public transport to 25 percent of its ground public passenger fleet by the end of 2029, Belarusian Industry Minister Andrei Kuznetsov said Friday.

Belarus currently has about 7,900 units of public transport vehicles, including 6,101 buses, 198 electric buses, 1,354 trolleybuses and 247 trams, which indicates that ground public transport is widely used across Belarus, Kuznetsov said at a meeting on the development of domestic passenger transport production.

The minister said projected domestic demand for such vehicles through the end of 2029 would total 2,699 units, comprising 1,737 buses, 188 electric buses, 678 trolleybuses and 96 trams.

A significant portion of domestically produced passenger transport vehicles is expected to be exported, primarily to Russia, where demand is projected to grow substantially, Kuznetsov added.
