Rescued tourists brought ashore and then to hospital


KOTA KINABALU: The 20 tourists who survived the catamaran sinking were taken to the marine police jetty here.

They were ferried by a fishing boat escorted by a Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency vessel and marine police boat.

The bodies of the three tourists who drowned in the tragedy were also on board.

There was no word on the remaining catamaran crewman who is still missing.

The two-tier fishing boat docked at the jetty at about 1.45am yesterday.

The police and medical teams rushed in to receive the victims who were given medical attention on the jetty before being sent to Queen Elizabeth Hospital.

Those survivors who were able to walk were escorted to two vans while the rest were taken away in ambulances.

Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department Datuk Seri Dr Shahidan Kassim was at the jetty and said that the authorities would give the survivors time to recuperate before the police record their testimonies on the incident.
