Netizens mourn Adenan's passing

PETALING JAYA: Malaysian netizens have come together to honour the memory of Sarawak Chief Minister Tan Sri Adenan Satem, whom they describe as an exceptional leader.

"Tan Sri was a great leader. He truly practised moderation and ruled Sarawak fairly. Malaysia lost a great man. Condolences to his grieving family. May his soul rest in peace," Vincent Paulraj wrote on The Star Online's Facebook page.

"You'll be dearly missed, Tok Nan," said Natrah Mohamad, referring to Adenan by his nickname.

Tan Yung Chek said: "I feel very sad on hearing the news, he was such a great and well-respected man".

Jaime Sommers said: "I saw him in a live chat TV interview. I am impressed with his eloquence, thoughts and his vision to build a better Sarawak. May you rest in peace".

"There could never be another one like him. I admire his passion and dedication to his people. A true Rakyat Man. His passing had deeply saddened me. Rest in peace Tok Nan. I'll miss your wisdom and jokes," said Jace ST.

Louis Achuk said: "A very sad day for Sarawak. Tok Nan was a great and respectful leader. My condolences to his family".

"Deepest condolences to his family. A big loss to Sarawakians and the nation. Al fatihah," said Azman Kassim.

Some of the users had even changed their profile photos to that of a black-and-white Sarawak state flag as a sign of mourning.

Adenan passed away Wednesday afternoon at the Sarawak General Hospital in Kota Samarahan. He would have turned 73 on Jan 27.

Many have attributed Barisan Nasional's landslide victory in the 2016 Sarawak state election to Adenan's leadership. He is remembered for being a champion of Sarawak rights and a competent leader who often spoke out about maintaining racial harmony.
