JOHOR BARU: Sultan Ibrahim Ibni Almarhum Sultan Iskandar has directed the Hospital Sultanah Aminah (HSA) management to open up the royal ward to temporarily house patients displaced by the fire at the hospital’s intensive care unit (ICU).

The Ruler decreed this during his visit to the hospital at around 1.50pm following the incident yesterday.

The royal ward is on the top floor of a five-storey structure adjacent to the ICU building where the fire broke out.

A doctor, who declined to be named, said the royal ward could accommodate between 15 and 20 patients.

Sultan Ibrahim spent about 15 minutes being briefed about the incident by state authorities and met with Johor Fire and Rescue Department personnel on duty at the scene.

Permaisuri Johor Raja Zarith Sofiah binti Almarhum Sultan Idris Shah visited the hospital at about 12.30pm while Tunku Temenggong Johor Tunku Idris Ibni Sultan Ibrahim arrived minutes after Sultan Ibrahim left.

Mentri Besar Datuk Mohamed Khaled Nordin said he did not want to speculate on the cause of the fire when asked whether it was due to maintenance issues.
