Mukhriz: Let the people judge my work

PETALING JAYA: Kedah Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Mukhriz Mahathir said that his work is best judged by the people whom he has served.

Responding to Kedah Umno’s call for the Prime Minister to make changes to the state leadership on Wednesday, Mukhriz released a statement later in the day saying that he would leave it to the rakyat to judge his worth as a Mentri Besar and that the position was determined with the consent of the Sultan of Kedah Tuanku Abdul Halim Mu'adzam Shah.

“My position as Menteri Besar is based on the mandate and trust given by the rakyat and also on the consent of his highness, the Sultan of Kedah, on the proposal of the Prime Minister.

“I leave it to the rakyat to judge the accomplishments and effectiveness of my work with the party leadership of the entire state since the first day that Barisan Nasional returned to govern the state of Kedah after the 13th general election,” he said.

Mukhriz said that he held the mandate to serve as best he can for the sake of the welfare and prosperity of the people.

Earlier, several members of the Kedah Umno leadership and elected representatives gathered to hold a press conference declaring their loss of confidence in the leadership of Mukhriz.

Kedah Umno deputy chairman Datuk Ahmad Bashah Md Hanipah said that this loss of trust was due to a number of reasons, including Mukhriz’s alleged inability to unite the party leadership and machinery at all levels in the state.
