Traces of burnt marks left on the front portion of a bank in Alor Setar following a Molotov cocktail attack.

ALOR SETAR: A man, who is believed to be the main suspect in the attack on a bank using a Molotov cocktail, here, has been arrested, according to Kedah police.

Kedah CID chief Assistant Commissioner Mohd Nashir Ya said the man, in his 30s, was arrested at his home in Taman Bersatu, Batas Paip, Kuala Kedah, at 11pm on Wednesday.

"The man will be remanded today (Thursday) to enable further police investigation to be carried out," he said in a statement.

In Wednesday’s 4.05pm incident, customers of a bank in Alor Setar were shocked when a man riding a motorcycle hurled a Molotov cocktail on the front portion of the bank, resulting in a minor damage.

After hurling the bomb, the man fled, according to a witness.

ACP Mohd Nashir said the suspect had entered the bank at 3pm to withdraw RM10,000.

However, he became angry when was told by the bank that his account had been closed.

"One hour later, the suspect came back and hurled the Molotov cocktail at the bank. His action was recorded on a CCTV," said ACP Mohd Nashir.

He added that the case was being investigated under section 435 of the Penal Code for causing mischief by fire.  - BERNAMA
