Remand extended for Alor Setar stabbing suspect

ALOR SETAR: Police have extended the remand of a suspect who allegedly stabbed a woman inside a car in Jalan Titi Gajah here until next Wednesday (June 3).

Kota Setar OCPD Asst Comm Syed Basri Syed Ali said the extension was granted following the expiry on Sunday of the initial seven-day remand period, which began last Monday.

"The victim is reported to be in stable condition and has regained consciousness (but remains hospitalised)," he said in a statement on Sunday.

The 35-year-old victim suffered serious neck injuries after she was allegedly stabbed by a 32-year-old male acquaintance outside a restaurant at 9.19pm last Sunday.

In a separate case, Syed Basri said the suspect who tried to abduct a Form Two schoolgirl in Pekan Simpang Kuala here on May 13 has yet to be arrested.

In the 8.26pm incident, the student escaped from a motorcyclist who attempted to kidnap her in an alley near a tuition centre. - Bernama
