14-year-old girl narrowly escapes abduction attempt in Alor Setar


ALOR SETAR: A 14-year-old female student escaped an attempted abduction in Pekan Simpang Kuala near here last night.

Kota Setar OCPD Asst Comm Syed Basri Syed Ali said in the 8.26pm incident, the victim was approached by an unidentified man on a motorcycle.

"As the victim was walking along a lane in the town, the suspect stopped his motorcycle in front of her before grabbing and covering her face with his hand.

"The victim managed to escape after biting the suspect’s hand and ran to a nearby tuition centre to seek help,” he said in a statement on Thursday (May 14).

He said the victim lodged a police report on Thursday and the case was being investigated under Section 363 of the Penal Code, Section 511 of the Penal Code and Section 14 of the Sexual Offences Against Children Act 2017.

"We have also sought assistance from the D10 Forensics Division of the Criminal Investigation Department at the Kedah police headquarters to obtain samples from the scene.

"Efforts to trace the suspect are ongoing and members of the public with information on the incident or the suspect are urged to contact the police immediately for further action,” he said. — Bernama
