Subra: RoS happy with CWC meeting

Datuk Seri Dr S. Subramaniam

KUALA LUMPUR: The Registrar of Societies (RoS) is satisfied with the arrangements made by the MIC Central Working Committee meeting, said party deputy president Datuk Seri S. Subramaniam.

“Representatives of the RoS came to the meeting to determine its legality and we gave them everything they needed.

“We have complied with all the requirements. In fact, we even waited 30 minutes for the president Datuk Seri G. Palanivel to arrive but he did not turn up,” Subramaniam said after the meeting at the MIC headquarters here.

Dr Subramaniam said Palanivel’s appointment of the nine individuals to the CWC was not valid.

“We discussed the letter by RoS and there was no mention about appointed or nominated members. It says only members who were elected in 2009 should form the interim committee for the fresh elections.”

Subramaniam said the president could nominate people, but Section 46.5 of the party constitution stated that the CWC needed to endorse the nominees.

He said seven of the 2009 CWC members would be working with RoS and the party branches.

“These seven elected members will liaise with the branches as well as RoS and compile the information the Registrar needs. We only have until Feb 20 to provide the details,” said Subramaniam.

In response to a statement by Palanivel, who claimed the CWC meeting was illegal as Sakthivel Alagappan, who called for the meeting, was not the secretary-general, Subramaniam said Sakthivel was among those elected in 2009 and was appointed secretary-general in 2013.

“In view of various disputes within the party, we also suggested an emergency general meeting (EGM) and have asked the CWC to look into it.

“If the president had come today, everything would have been good and with that we hope some kind of joint synergy will come out of all this.”

Asked if he would be a part of a press conference called by Palanivel today, Subramaniam said: “We will all attend if the president calls for a press conference.”
