GEORGE TOWN: The operator of Line Clear nasi kandar at Penang Road is crying foul after the Penang Municipal Council (MPPP) carted away tables and chairs from the restaurant early Monday morning.
Owner Abdul Hamid Seeni Pakir said 40 enforcement officers removed about 20 tables and chairs in the 4am operation.
“Only a few workers were there when the officers carried and loaded the tables and chairs on the MPPP truck. One of the workers pleaded for some time to contact us,” Abdul Hamid, 64, told newsmen at the restaurant.
Line Clear opened for business as usual on Monday after the operator brought in new tables and chairs to replace the ones seized by MPPP officers.
In June last year, a dispute over the rotation of management at the restaurant had forced the MPPP to issue an ultimatum to the four partners.
In Oct, MPPP Licensing and Public Health Committee chairman Ong Ah Teong had said that a licence would be issued annually to the partners on a rotation basis for 12 years from 2015.
He said the cycle would begin with T. Abdul Latiff, 53, and followed by Sahubarah China Mohd Hanibah, 56, Pathumah Iskandar, 65, and Abdul Hamid.
The council, he added, would move to vacate the premises if Abdul Hamid failed to surrender it by Dec 31, 2014Already a subscriber? Log in
