Erra Fazira and Engku Emran divorced

SHAH ALAM: Actress, singer and model Erra Fazira (pic) and her husband of seven years, Engku Emran Engku Zainal Abidin, are officially divorced.

The proceedings took place at the Syariah High Court here on Tuesday.

Judge Mohammad Adib Husain confirmed the lafaz talak satu (pronouncement) made by Engku Emran after they agreed to a mutual separation.

Erra, whose real name is Fazira Wan Chek, 40, was composed, while Engku Emran, 39, choked on his words when making the pronouncement.

The couple earlier arrived at the court separately at around 11.45am.

Engku Emran was represented by Roslan Sujak Rafiee while Ahmad Nazib Johari acted for Erra.

In court, Erra said the divorce application was filed only after their relationship had gone through irreconcilable differences after they had been living separately for the past year.

The couple also agreed to settle custody issues of their daughter, Engku Aleesya, five, amicably.

Engku Emran was given full custody rights over their daughter while Erra was given visitation rights along with overnight stays and holidays.

The actress did not demand for any alimony from her former husband.

Speaking to reporters after the case, Erra said she felt relieved that all speculation on her marriage had ended.

"The divorce is settled without any hassle, Alhamdulillah," she said. Engku Emran refused to comment.

Erra was previously married to actor and singer Yusry Abd Halim in 2003. The marriage lasted three years.
