Children of couple detained in Sweden start school

KOTA BARU: The children of the detained Malaysian couple in Sweden – Tourism Malaysia officer Azizul Raheem Awalludin and teacher Shalwati Norshal – started their first day of school here after they were brought home.

Aishah Azizul Raheem, 14, and her brother Ammar, 12, are in Form Three and Form One, respectively, at SMK Padang Kala.

Their younger siblings Adam, 11, and Arif, seven, have enrolled in Year Six and Year Two at SK Padang Kala.

The schools are located near their aunt’s home in Kampung Wakaf Tok Wali where the children are staying.

Aishah said although they were happy to be in school, they felt nervous at first about adapting to a new environment.

“When I arrived at school and saw all the other students, the nervousness and fear vanished,” she said.

Accompanying the children to school was their uncle Badrul Hisham Mahzan, 55.

Azizul and Shalwati have been detained by the Swedish authorities for allegedly hitting the hand of one of their sons for not praying. They are expected to be charged today at the Stockholm district court. — Bernama
