Ipoh's well-loved nasi kandar stall ordered to close

IPOH: The city’s beloved nasi kandar stall at the Yong Suan Coffeeshop in Jalan Yang Kalsom here has been ordered to close by the health authorities.

The Kinta health department has issued a notice to the operator of Perniagaan Nasi Kandar Ayam Merah, which has existed since 1955, to cease its operations with immediate effect until Nov 28 following a raid on the premises at 5pm yesterday.

It is learnt that the operating licence of the stall, famous for its food nicknamed nasi ganja for its addictive spicy curry and meats, was also revoked by the Ipoh City Council.

Datuk Bandar Datuk Roshidi Hashim said the joint raid was part of a scheduled raid with the other departments.

“The operator scored insufficient points and was ordered by the health department to cease operations for 14 days. The order was issued under Section 11 of the Food Act 1983 as the premises was deemed to be unclean and unhygienic,” said Roshidi.

According to an eyewitness, the stall operator and workers had refused to let the raiding officers into the kitchen and the officials were forced to break down the kitchen door to get in.
