Don't let individual interests derail Perikatan, says Muhyiddin

PETALING JAYA: Coalition leaders must not abuse their power and put the interests of certain parties ahead of the group as a whole, says Bersatu president Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin.

Following the deregistration of Perikatan Nasional, he urged coalition leaders to treat all component parties fairly and comply with the Perikatan constitution and the Societies Act 1966.

Bersatu is a founding member of Perikatan Nasional.

"Do not abuse power and position merely to serve the interests of a particular party or group, to the point of causing the coalition to stray from its original purpose and objectives," he said in a statement on Tuesday (Oct 20).

On the deregistration, Muhyiddin said he was saddened by the decision and would discuss the way forward with Bersatu leaders at a special political bureau meeting on Tuesday (Oct 20) night.

The Registrar of Societies (ROS) announced that Perikatan had been issued a notice to submit an explanation and representations on matters raised under Subsection 13(2) of the Societies Act 1966.

"After examining all the submitted documents and explanations, we found that the reasons given did not refute the grounds for deregistration stated in the notice or provide sufficient justification for maintaining the coalition's registration.

"Consequently, we have decided to cancel Perikatan's registration under Subparagraph 13(1)(c)(iv) of the Societies Act," the statement read.
