KUALA LUMPUR: A police corporal was remanded yesterday in connection with the gruesome murder of a Mongolian model whose body was blown to bits with explosives.
Magistrate Azniza Mohd Ali ordered that the corporal be remanded until Monday to assist police in their investigations into the murder of 28-year-old Altantuya Shaariibuu whose bone fragments were recovered in Puncak Alam, near Shah Alam on Monday.
He was the third suspect to be remanded in the case. Two others a chief inspector and a woman corporal were remanded last Thursday based on suspicion. Their remand order ends today.
The two male suspects are said to be from the Special Action Unit whose current postings are with the escort guard branch of the police force, tasked with the protection of VIPs.
The corporal remanded yesterday is said to be also attached to a unit to protect a VIP.
Earlier news reports indicated that the Mongolian woman had gone to a prominent political analysts house in Damansara Heights before she went missing.
Police picked up the analyst, who is in his 40s, for questioning yesterday morning.
