Utar honours Genting founder with degree

KUALA LUMPUR: Universiti Tunku Abdul Rahman has conferred an honorary Degree of Doctor of Entrepreneurship on Genting Group founder and honorary life chairman Tan Sri Lim Goh Tong.

Utar Council chairman Tun Dr Ling Liong Sik said Utar was blessed to be the privileged beneficiary of Lim’s generosity.

“He has a big heart and mind, and his business acumen and visionary leadership have won him countless accolades.

“Among them most recently was the prestigious Travel Entrepreneur of the Year award,” he said, thanking Lim and his son, Tan Sri Lim Kok Thay, for their continuing patronage for Utar.

Dr Ling said Lim was well known as an astute businessman and a dedicated family man who had overcome many obstacles to attain the status as a pillar of the community.

SPECIAL APPRECIATION: Dr Ling presenting the honorary degree to Lim at the conferment ceremony Thursday. Looking on are Genting Group deputy chairman Tun Mohammed Hanif Omar, Utar CEO and president Tan Sri Ng Lay Swee and Kok Thay.

The conferment of the degree was in recognition of Lim’s outstanding achievements and contributions to education.

“From humble and modest beginnings, he rose to be a top-class self-made entrepreneur,” Dr Ling added.

Describing Lim’s lifetime achievements and philanthropy as an example and an inspiration to all, he said: “We must salute you with the utmost respect and gratitude.”

“You will always occupy a very special place in the hearts and minds of the Utar community,” he said at the conferment ceremony held at Wisma Genting yesterday.
