KUALA LUMPUR: The Royal Malaysian Police honoured and bade farewell to outgoing Deputy Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Jamil Johari, who served in the force for 32 years, with a formal dinner on Tuesday.
The function, held at a hotel here, was to commemorate the services rendered by Jamil, who is expected to assume his new post as the high commissioner to Brunei soon.
Among those who attended the dinner on Tuesday night were Home Ministry Secretary-General Datuk Seri Aseh Che Mat and Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Norian Mai.
The Kuching-born Jamil, popularly known as Tan Sri JJ, began his career with the police force as a cadet assistant superintendent in January 1971.

Over the years, the posts he has held included Bentong and Kuantan police chief, Sarawak Special Branch chief, Sarawak Police Deputy Commissioner, Sabah Police Commissioner, CID Deputy Director and Director of Management.
Jamil, who holds a master’s degree in political science, a bachelor’s degree in economics and a diploma in education, assumed his duties as Deputy IGP in 1999.
