615 students pregnant in Perak last year

Perak recorded 615 cases of teen pregnancy involving students last year, prompting the state government to look into the matter seriously.

State Health Committee chairman Datuk Dr Mah Hang Soon said the figure represented 78% out of the total 787 cases of teen pregnancy at government clinics.

Based on record, 411 cases involved married teenagers still in school, while 120 cases dropped out of school after marriage.

Another 204 cases chose to continue schooling without marrying, and 52 others decided to stop schooling and not get married.
