More Malaysians can now pursue their postgraduate studies in New Zealand, thanks to a significant increase in allocations under the Manaaki New Zealand Scholarship Programme.

Starting this year, the number of fully-funded postgraduate scholarships offered by New Zealand to Malaysians has increased from two to 39 per annum, said New Zealand Foreign Affairs Minister Winston Peters.

This, he added, would continue for “at least” the next three years.

“As New Zealand strengthens its ties with South-East Asia, it is important that we build on our existing people-centred connections.

“Our Manaaki Scholarship Programme is a key part of this,” Peters said on July 10.

New Zealand High Commissioner to Malaysia Michael Walsh said the scholarships will support the next generation of capable individuals to develop new skills and capabilities in a range of priority sectors for Malaysia.

The Manaaki New Zealand Scholarship Programme, which covers tuition, travel costs, living stipends and pastoral care, supports postgraduate students in a range of disciplines, including climate and economic resilience, governance and education.
